I’m taking a short trip to New Mexico in January to visit my mother. She will be turning 80 this year and I am so proud to have her as my mother. I plan on doing a post on her because she is just plain awesome…and she grew up in Berlin during WWII…but those stories are for another time.
I miss the desert; New Mexico is my second home. It may sound silly to some, but the desert does call out to you if you’ve been away too long. You will start longing for that dry land that opens you up to places you’ve never seen before – underground caves and secret passages – all that you will experience with dust and ambition in your eyes. You’ll linger to see that cotton candy sky blend down the evening as you watch the mountains go from brown to orange to red to purple, all within 30 minutes. *sighs* I do miss it, but I’m glad I am where I am in life; I’m also glad that I was able to experience places in the southwest that some people never see, mostly because they are not looking.
Here are a selection of my favorite New Mexico moments that luckily I caught on film. These photos are available as prints at my Society6 shop here.
