February 2016 Ink Drop

Hi Friends!

The Goulet Pen Company sent me the February Ink Drop! If you haven’t heard of Ink Drop, it’s a monthly subscription with 5 fountain pen ink samples, stickers and access members page with extra discounts. February’s Sassy Theme: Treat Yo Self ;)

  • Montegrappa Bordeaux
  • Monteverde Burgundy
  • Pelikan Edelstien Sapphire
  • Pilot Iroshizuku Ajisai
  • Private Reserve Chocolate

Here’s the Ink Drop Doodle – I used all the colored inks in this drop separately (did not mix), used filled fountain pens and a water brush. The outlines were done with a Pilot Prera (M) with Platinum Carbon Black and I used a Uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen. The skin shading is a Grey 101 Prismacolor marker.

I’m not a huge blue person, but both blues in this set were lovely and Ajisai was interestingly darker in a Japanese fine nib. I’m not a huge fan of burgundies, but MG Bordeaux and MV Burgundy were nice – very similar in color. PR Chocolat is gorgeous with interesting red undertones. Overall, all the inks were well behaved and a nice set for this February!

Here’s a writing sample of each on Rhodia paper (scanned)

My favorites are Private Reserve Chocolate and Pilot Iroshizuku Ajisai!

Images scanned in with minimal level adjustment (unless noted) and photos taken with Samsung NX mini (with and without flash). Ink swatches are done on Maruman Mnemosyne Word cards with a dip pen and Tachikawa Comic Nib G. As with any ink scans and/or photos I try to be consistent in color. What you see on your monitor might not be the actual color, but it should be a fairly close representation. I received these ink samples from The Goulet Pen Company for the purposes of review. All opinions in this review are mine, and are not bias based on how I received these samples.
