August 2015 Ink Drop

August 2015 Ink Drop

Happy day! I have received my August 2015 Ink Drop from Goulet Pens!

  • Faber-Castell Stone Grey
  • Faber-Castell Moss Green
  • Diamine Burnt Sienna
  • De Atramentis Sahara Grey
  • Noodler’s Apache Sunset

Here’s my little Ink Drop Doodle. I used all the inks in this drop separately (did not mix), Sakura Pigma Microns for outlining, Prismacolor Markers in grey tones for the skin and stones, and a white gelly roll for the white accents on SN2 paper*. This doodle kind of had a mind of it’s own! When thinking about what to draw, I was thinking forest scene and those stacked stones, and then this happened :D It was a lot of fun to do and, like all artists, I find hands the hardest body part to draw and every time I draw them they look so strange to me. :P

This month’s drop features inks with a woodsy adventure theme. Lovely Earth tones. (The only color that I felt didn’t fit the theme was Apache Sunset, but it’s such a great ink and I’ll take it anyday!) Also, don’t be fooled, De Atramentis Sahara Grey is not grey ;) To me it’s more of an olive green.

The paper towel swab gradient was awesome, I have to share :)

This drop featured two inks of a brand that I have never tried before: Faber-Castell Stone Grey and Moss Green. Both inks really appealed to me and I think I’ve found my new favorite grey ink. Both inks of this brand behaved very well in my dip pen, and I inked up my TWSBI Eco with the grey and the TWSBI Mini with the green with nice results. Also, I inked up my other TWSBI mini with the Burnt Sienna.

Here’s the swatches, scanned and photographed:

I definitely gravitate towards more earthy tones, so I loved this theme. My favorites were Faber-Castell Stone Grey and Diamine Burnt Sienna.

What are your favorites from this month’s Ink Drop?

Thank you for reading/looking! :)

(Images scanned in with minimal level adjustment and photos taken with Samsung NX mini. Ink swatches are done on Maruman Mnemosyne Word cards with a dip pen and Tachikawa Comic Nib G. As with any ink scans and/or photos I try to be consistent in color. What you see on your monitor might not be the actual color, but it should be a fairly close representation.)

SN^2 Paper Review
*To order the SN² paper pads or loose sheets, please email Ben at and he will provide you with a price list. At the time I ordered, in January 2015, the 5.5″ x 8.5″ were $6 each and the 4.25″ x 5.5″ was $3.50 (100 sheets bound). His shipment was incredibly quick and it’s been a treat using his paper and corresponding with him!
